Who We Are

Who We Are:

We are part of the Presbyterian Church USA, a Christian church which traces its heritage back to the reformation in Europe.  Here at First Presbyterian, we are proud of our history in Butler County.  We began in January, 1870, when eight people met together to discuss the founding of a Presbyterian Congregation in El Dorado.  They began worshipping together and working toward the goal of calling a pastor.  We have been worshipping God and serving our community together ever since then.

We are governed by our Ruling Elders, a group of twelve trusted servants who give of their time and energy to serve Christ through the Presbyterian Church.  They set the policies under which we all work, and also ensure that the church provides for the preaching and teaching of God’s Word and the celebration of the sacraments (Baptism and the Lord’s Supper).  The Ruling Elders are selected by the congregation each year at our Annual Meeting.  They are assisted by the Board of Deacons and the Board of Trustees, all of whom are elected by the congregation.
